It’s been a shit week and I dont feel like doing a real post- so here are some amazing shoes from this fashion week. The clothes have been hit or miss in New York, London and Milan this season, but the shoes has been really stellar. So much great stuff and Balenciaga hasn’t even happened yet! Here are some of my favorite ankle breakers from Fendi, Doo.Ri, Bottega Veneta, Narcissus Rodriguez, Jil Sander, Burberry Prorsum and Gucci

This is the story of a girl, who cried a river and drowned the whole world! And while she looked so sad in photographs, I absolutely love her, when she smiles.

This October Mrs Roitfeld gets back to her roots. Images from the upcoming issue of Vogue Paris have started to surface, and it is look like a real throwback to the issue from the late 90s and early 00s. As usual, Carine really had a heavy hand in the styling for this issue; styling the cover, Yasmin Warsaw and Lakshmi Menon herself. This is the styling that makes her magazine what it is, its layering and clashing with the most specific touch.  Carine also really brings out the best in Mario Testino, the work they do for Vogue Paris is always consistent- even when a lot of Mario’s other works tend to get very . . . cheesy. And, what would any issue of VP be without a slutty girl in underwear and fur?? We can always count on Terry Richardson to bring us just that; this time shooting Erin Wasson looking perfectly prostitutional in red.

It’s been a while. I know I shouldn’t have kept you waiting, but I’m here now.

I’m not REVIEWING anymore shows until ALL the fashion weeks are over, BUT I just needed to hand out a couple “fuck the haters.” The Ali Michaels comeback was cemented today at Burberry Prorsum. I had been worried she was going to have another season of B-list shows, but she killed it at Burberry. She looks phenomenal and this will definitely effect the next 2 weeks for her. I can’t wait.

Mary… I desperately wanna make love to a school boy.

Finally- a good US Vogue cover! Rachel Weisz look phenomenal in one of my favorite looks for this Fall- and those Rodarte knits are just as stunning in real life as they are in pictures. This cover is an improvement from the recent covers, because it fashion forward without feeling so forced. Rachel looks great in this look, and it isn’t a look that the general populace of America has seen (save for the couple million Style.com subscribers), but she also look comfortable and somewhat natural or with the images on the inside she looks like a good actress playing a role. These women are not models, they don’t look the same contorted in weird poses and dressed in some over-the-top garb that is hugely billowed and/or ridiculously constrained. I mean, I’m just shocked sometimes how they can give Keira Knightley fat man in a skinny suit syndrome or look at Drew Barrymore’s 80s prom hair before she goes to sit for the cover and honestly tell her, “You look fantastic!” Needless to say, I am really pleased with the new found sensibility this cover is illustrating.

The male supermodel. Hercules magazine has a cover ode, to the almost endangered species. The cover features Pam Anderson’s ex Marcus Schenkenberg, top money boys Tyson Ballou and Andres Seugura, the new boy Terron Wood and mysterious shaded man that Models.com predicts is Marlon Texiera. I love the classic super model catch phrase “You Better Work,” sounding as an introduction to a new era of male modeling.

Yeah? Well, about twenty years ago there was this guy. He noticed some mold growing on his bread and he started feeding it to people. Everybody said he was stupid. You know what it turned out to be? Aspirin!

September 16th, 2008 | Catwalking, Clotheshorse, My Lists, Teen Dream

Here it is- my top 10 girls from NYFW, in order.

1. Toni Garnn/ Karlie Kloss- The blondes are on top again. This season the New York runways were ruled by the baby blondes Toni Garrn and Karlie Kloss. This half of the CK4 did pretty much every notable NY show, opening a closing more than a handful of them. Karlie was a strong runway girl last season, while people have questioned Toni’s staying power- but this season they were the two most visible stompers on the lanes.

2. Jourdan Dunn- I know I sound like a broken record- but, I love to say I told you so. Everyone knew that the all of the black model talk was going to lead to some sort of change, and I knew that Jourdan would be at the front of the pack. Jourdan, Arlenis and Sessilee were on every major runway of the week, but Jourdan was definitely the coveted girl- the only black girl walking Calvin Klein and walking all the best looks of the the season.

3. Amanda Laine- Who would have thought that a girl found from a internet model search would end up gracing the runways of every influential designer working. But Amanda has done just that. She has been the dark horse of fashion week, with her long face and her geeky appeal, this Canadian is showing Tyra how to “be on top.”

4. Anna Selezneva- As expected, Anna won of the the three coveted CK exclusives. She was in town for less than 48 hours and managed to DJ the V Magazine soiree and walk Calvin. The buzz is saying that she will be on the top of the booking lists in Europe.

5. Sessilee Lopez- Talk about a comeback. Thank you Stephen Meisel.

6. Anya K- Even though she wasn’t an exclusive, Marilyn’s Anya K took the coveted first girl out spot at CK. When it comes to modeling, CK is definitely the show that changes careers and with that spot and spots in all the best  line-ups for the week- Anya is definitely looking at a very busy month.

7. Katrin Thormann- Coming pretty much out of no where to appear on a Dazed and Confused cover right before fashion week put Katrin in a pretty good place work wise. The sharp blonde was a favorite of all the big guns and looked particularly perfect for Narcisco Rodriguez.

8. Ali Michaels- A little controversy never hurt no one. After going on Good Morning America to talk about being sent home from Paris fashion week for a weight gain, Ali was definitely visable in NY. Whether it was sympathy booking or not, I am really glad to see her working again- and I dare say, she looked quite skinny.

9. Iris Strubeggar- Iris is another girl that everyone thought was new in the ranks, but she has actually been with Supreme for quite a while. She was not modeling for a couple of years, and the agency saw a perfect opportunity to bring her back into the bussiness with a substainal buzz- the plan paid off.

10. Eniko Mihalik- She isn’t quite my cup of tea, but Eniko was definitely one of the stars of NYFW. She has a killer body that has designers gagging; and you know I’m a sucker for a slutty number. Not only was she wearing the most revealing looks, she was also revealing it all in a 20 pages spread in the new V shot by her number 1 fans, Inez and Vinoodh.

I’ve just put off talking about New York Fashion week long enough, I am just going to break it down into lists. So here are my top 5 6 collections from NYFW, in no particular order. Thank you, Anna.

Call me crazy, but I think I might like Tyra doing REAL modeling. Sebastian Faena shot model-mogul Tyra Banks and girl-to-book Sessilee Lopez as the main characters from the Diana Ross film Mahogany. Granted I don’t really find that top image spectaular, but both Tyra and Sessilee look great and from what I have seen the rest of the story is really beautiful. As much as everyone would like to make a joke out of Tyra-with this spread and one of the best images in the entire Black Issue of Italian Vogue, she is proving more and more that she is the one with the last laugh.

What Mirabelle needs is an omniscient voice to illuminate and spotlight her and to inform everyone that this one has value, this one standing behind the counter in the glove department and to find her counterpart and bring him to her.

Last night was the launch party for Magnus Berger and Tenzin Wild’s new magazine, The Last Magazine. The large format magazine is the size of a newspaper and printed on news print. The cover feautures Daria Werbowy shot by Camilla Akrans. The editors have said that they want to use the magazine to shine a light on young talent in Fashion and art. There are really beautiful editorials in the magazine by Camilla Akrans, Nicolas Moore and Maciek Kobielski- hopefully some good scans will surface soon.

As promised, here are the Solve Sunsbo and Craig McDean spreads from the new Another magazine. I haven’t found the Yelena Yemchuk spread, but I’ll definitely put it up if I find it! The Solve spread features Anja Rubnik and my personal favorite girl-of-the-moment, Jourdan Dunn. It is really great to see Jourdan doing some real modeling, there is really great movement in all these shots and as much as a try to not be really into Anja- she really works it out in these.

I love when McDean does shoots like this, its such a refreshing change from the same old American Vogue spreads. I really think that he uses digital effects combined with lighting effects so perfectly, its just a matter of the magazines allowing him the creative freedom. Plus, the casting in this is spot on- I LOVE the shot of Stam and Siri together wearing Prada menswear.
