Record Of The Week: Ai022LP

June 27th, 2008

For it’s 22nd release UK label Ai Records offers up a various artists disc on clear polka dot vinyl. Present on the disc are The Third Man, Najem Sworb and Plant43 who each provide two tracks each. All of these artists were also part of the label’s recent polka-dot sleeved series of colored clear vinyl EPs which are worth hunting down.

Over all this release is a good representation of the current sound and spirit of the label. Smart clicky subtle electro (electro electro) amongst a palette of rich synthetic melodies. This collection of songs would be playing in Rick Deckard’s headphones. I’ve been following this label since the Claro Intelecto release and it only seems to get stronger and more consistent. In all honesty this is more a label recommendation than a specific release review.

My favorite tune is Padreduct by Najem Sworb. This is partly due to it reminding me of older late 90s Ken Ishii in some updated way. I guess the song is all about memory or indistinct feeling.

Try Ai Record’s for the limited vinyl or buy digitally at Beatport or Bleep.
